Storytime Magazine

It was way back at the end of 2014 when I first noticed a new children’s  publication called ‘Storytime‘ hitting the shelves. It was also causing quite a stir on social media. The magazine was full of gorgeous illustrations which were so beautiful to look at and was packed with great stories, poems and puzzles for children to read. What took me more by surprise was its ‘no nonsense’ approach. There was no gimmicky toy, plastic cover nor were there any adverts. It was a quality publication and I could tell that it had been created with love and great care.
Knowing that this was something I desperately wanted to be a part of I emailed my artwork in the hope that my style might be appropriate. To my surprise I heard back in March, I had been asked to illustrate a triple page spread alongside the poem ‘Animal Fair’! This seemed to be right up my street as I had the opportunity to design new animal characters and put them in a setting which was fun for the reader.

Here are a couple of images showing the initial rough sketch and outline.
Trying to squeeze all the animals in whilst being mindful of where the text would go proved to be quite a challenge.

And here it is in publication !

Do make sure you grab yourself a copy direct from or your nearest WHSmith, ASDA or Sainsbury’s.

Fabulous story! Amazing to see the art process beginning with you discovering StoryTime Magazine through submitting your work, being asked to contribute and then sketching and the final printed work. Absolutely beautiful! We’ve all found artistic places we’re just know we NEED be a part of, thanks for sharing a great success story.
